PROJECT STORY
ARHT Media required a partner to create the world’s first permanent hologram installation. The New Jersey Hall of Fame wanted to replace its out-of-date displays at Newark Airport with something with a real wow factor. With no permanent home, the HoloCube would serve as a semi-permanent attraction for the Hall of Fame.

The project brief required a futuristic design with strong branding and an entertaining yet educational, interactive element.

While several concepts were submitted, the ‘Space Cargo’ concept was chosen.  The bold, three-dimensional cladding, finished in gloss yellow, contrasts with the matte black cuboid core.  An interactive touchscreen to the side of the main window allows guests to choose their Hall of Famer and then ask them twenty (preprogrammed) questions.  Additionally, the Cube is configured to ‘beam in’ living Hall of Famers, live from anywhere in the world.

Several big challenges had to be overcome in order for this project to be a success.  The seamless yellow exterior cladding had to be broken down for shipping and reassembled on-site, so careful consideration was given to the detailing and machining of all these parts.  Fire-rated (FR) materials and coatings also had to be used to comply with US Federal Building Code. The biggest challenge of all was controlling the surrounding ambient light.  Several tactics were employed to manage this issue, including a huge downward-angled window fabricated using museum-grade, non-glare, UV-filtering acrylic.
